I’m Joel Shover — a concert photographer, writer, creative professional, and entrepreneur with a lifelong passion for live music, storytelling, and building things that matter.
Through JoelShoverPhotography, I’ve spent years documenting live performances across the United States and beyond, capturing the raw energy, emotion, and connection that only happens when artists and audiences share the same space. From intimate club shows to sold-out arenas, stadiums, major festivals, and at-sea concerts, my goal has always been simple: tell the honest story of the night and preserve moments that disappear the second the lights come up.
My work has been featured in Live Music News & Review, MusicFest News, JamBase, and licensed through Getty Images, among others. I approach every assignment as both a photographer and a fan — someone who understands the history, the craft, and the responsibility that comes with documenting live performance. When I write about shows, I don’t just recap what happened; I capture how it felt to be there.
I’ve photographed hundreds of performances across the Northeast, Florida, Las Vegas, Denver, Texas, and other major live-music markets. My work includes coverage at some of the most iconic venues in the country, including Mohegan Sun Arena, Fenway Park, Madison Square Garden, TD Garden, Gillette Stadium, Virgin Hotels venues, the Saenger Theatre, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Brooklyn Bowl, the Capitol Theatre, and many more.
In addition to venues, I’ve covered major music festivals and outdoor events in Live Oak, Florida; Memphis, Tennessee; Greenfield, Massachusetts; Harmony, Maine, and beyond, working in fast-paced, high-pressure environments that demand both technical precision and creative instinct. My experience also extends to photographing artists aboard multiple cruise lines, capturing performances in unique, ever-changing at-sea settings. I am fully passport-ready and available for both domestic and international assignments.
My portfolio spans genres — rock, jam, Americana, soul, country, and legacy artists — because great live music isn’t confined to one sound, one venue, or one city. Whether it’s a stadium crowd singing in unison, a theater performance where every note hangs in the air, a late-night club set, or a festival sunset, I focus on moments that feel real and unrepeatable.
Beyond photography, I bring a strong creative foundation from my career as an executive chef, with experience in high-level hospitality and club environments. That background shaped my work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to perform under pressure — skills that translate directly to live event coverage, brand development, and entrepreneurship. Cooking taught me timing, discipline, and respect for the process, and those lessons carry into every creative project I take on.
I’m entrepreneurial by nature and constantly building. Over the years, I’ve developed and explored a wide range of creative and business ventures — from food concepts and product branding to event-driven projects, transportation services, and visual storytelling initiatives. I enjoy taking ideas from concept to execution and creating work that blends creativity with real-world practicality.
At the core of everything I do is purpose. As a Gold Star parent, I carry a deep commitment to honoring legacy, community, and service. That perspective shapes my work and reinforces my belief in the power of live music, art, and shared experiences to bring people together and preserve moments that matter.
Visually, my photography style is clean, intentional, and authentic. I focus on decisive moments rather than manufactured ones, balancing technical precision with emotional impact. I work professionally, respectfully, and efficiently, always mindful of artists, venues, production teams, and the environments I’m working in — whether on land or at sea.
Today, I continue to expand my portfolio, pursue new collaborations, and document live music wherever it happens. Whether photographing a legendary artist at an iconic venue, covering a major festival, or working aboard a cruise ship, my mission remains the same: tell real stories, create lasting images, and celebrate the enduring power of live music.
Go see live music.
Till the next show…
— Joel
